Eczema and Allergies - How Homeopathy can help
Allergies such as eczema and hay fever are an area of interest for me and one of the main complaints I see in my clinics. People seek help with this deciding they want to try an drug free approach. ........................................................................................... Eczema is a very common complaint and sadly there is no doubt it’s on the increase, particularly with children. Doctors do their best to alleviate the symptoms but are at a loss to understand why it is happening. The usual method of treatment is steroid/cortisone cream or immunosuppressants. These, whilst helping some of the time, do pose other well known health problems with long term use. Some parents and patients want a more natural approach and seek Homeopathy. ........................................................................................... CLINICAL OUTCOMES STUDIES - Bristol Homeopathic Hospital “An observational study at the Bristol Homeopathic Hospital included 6,500 consecutive patients with 23,000 attendances in a 6 year period. 70% reported improved health. 50% referring to major improvement. The best treatment responses were reported in childhood eczema and asthma and in inflammatory bowel disease, menopausal problems and migraines.” Please view the whole report at www.facultyofhomeopathy.org The homeopathic point of view is that eczema is a disturbance of the whole metabolic system. Often there might be stress related problems too, food allergies or an inherited weakness. I always have an initial in-depth case taking session, from this I will prescribe a constitutional remedy, this is a homeopathic tablet prescribed and chosen for you on a highly individual basis. This will take into account medical, emotional and physical factors (exactly how your skin feels, looks and reacts) and how you respond to your ailment. Where needed I will prescribe support remedies to aid the skin. If I suspect there could be food intolerances we look at this too and I can arrange an allergy test. Trying to deal with eczema is a process and I do try to offer as much support as possible. It’s important to know that homeopathy can be used alongside conventional medication if needed. The aim is to reduce the need for this whilst the body is put back in balance. (With the consent of your Dr or dermatologist). ![]() Case example... Boy RZ aged 4 years was brought by his parents for homeopathy because of dry, itchy eczema behind the knees and elbows which had started at 4 months old. His skin was usually bad in the summer and as they planned an extended trip to India were keen to seek help. In previous trips his skin had reacted badly and time in the sea and on the beach was difficult. I saw this child for 3 consultations before their departure. Taking into account all his medical history, birth, presenting skin complaints, how his skin reacted, his personality and everything unique to him I prescribed a remedy. For the first 4 days his skin was slightly worse (this is usual and to be expected, yet he coped with it) then this very dry skin improved and the eczema receded. Whilst in India his skin was good and he could play on the beach and swim in the sea without the usual reaction. His parents only had to use moisturiser. On his return his skin had a mild flare up, so I repeated his constitutional remedy. His skin to date (18 months later) is still good and eczema free. His parents kindly gave me their permission to write up this case. ...........................................................................................
